The Melbourne Aquarium holds 4 permanent exhibitions which will surprise and delight!

ANTARCTICA

Marvel as the majestic King and cheeky Gentoo penguins play in the pool and slide across the snow-covered ice.

Interactive displays and stunning visuals are sure to entertain and educate you on everything there is to know about the coldest, windiest and driest continent in the world.

From experiencing the life of an explorer as they embarked on the most perilous journey of their time to learning about how scientists live on the continent now, you will be amazed at the history, culture and science of one of the most remote places on earth.

Walk through the massive Nella Dan, a replica of one of the most famous Antarctic ice breakers and see the penguins in the special underwater viewing area.

WEIRD & WONDERFUL

The colourful and vibrant Weird & Wonderful journey allows you to experience some of the strangest marine animals in the world and these creatures will certainly challenge how you believe a fish should behave and what it should look like.

You will discover a selection of secrets for survival under the sea by observing the extraordinary habits of colour-changing cuttlefish, spiky lionfish, camouflaged sea dragons, armour-carrying crabs and everyone’s favourite marine movie star Nemo.

From the natural fascinating beauty of the live coral garden waving in the current, to the enchantment of the seahorse exhibit, Weird & Wonderful is a mesmerising world full of colourful and amazing animals for the whole family to enjoy.

RIVER TO REEF

While embarking on this amazing adventure, you will experience a wild jungle with extraordinary aquatic animals, beautiful waterfalls and spooky caves.

Come up-close to the amazing island inhabitants – rainbow fish, turtles, snakes, catfish, barramundi and even deadly poison arrow frogs. Don’t miss Australia’s largest freshwater fish – the Murray Cod.

Sharks and some of the most magnificent tropical animals of the reef swim right next to you in the spectacular floor-to-ceiling Coral Atoll and just around the corner are the enchanting Sea Jellies in their own specially designed UV-lit Jellies Room.

SHARKS ALIVE

Melbourne Aquarium’s 2.2 million litre Oceanarium features a panoramic Fish Bowl viewing area that allows you to feel as though you are underwater with intimidating sharks, massive stingrays, turtles and hundreds of fish swimming overhead.

Those feeling brave can dive in at the deep end and experience the huge adrenaline rush of swimming face-to-face with the sharks in the Oceanarium. For those who like to remain dry, the Glass Bottom Boat Tour takes you above the surface of the water – allowing you to enjoy the wonders from a different angle.

The daily dive feeds are a must-see highlight, as expert divers take the plunge into the tank to feed the hungry marine predators. You can also take a seat and relax in the Ocean Theatre and watch a presentation about the amazing animals as they float right by.
